Electric scooter at Hexham renewable energy fair.
Philip Latham looking at the power source with Andy Haddon
This smart scooter was on display courtesy of Andy Haddon chairman of Wylam Green Street. The scooter has a range of some 65 miles so it would be possible to commute to Newcastle and back on one charge. Andy can be contacted on wylamgreenstreet@hotmail.co.uk or 01661854626 if you are interested in becoming involved in green transport or a car club.

The features of it are that it accepts wind from any direction so needs no tracking system and is good in turbulent sites. It has low vibration a key feature for buildings, it is low noise and it will operate at lower speeds than the low limit for horizontal axis turbines. It also cannot cause injury through a blade breaking off. The downside is that its efficiency is lower than the horizontal axis kind, so it is relatively big for its output.
