NICK CLEGG ELECTED AS NEW LEADER OF THE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS

Hexham Constituency's Parliamentary Candidate Andrew Duffield, said 'Nick Clegg has the charisma, commitment and communication skills to be an ambitious force for change in British politics and I look forward to working with him.

Unlike the Labour party, who gave Gordon Brown a coronation and are already regretting it, we have had a vibrant contest, with the leadership contenders setting out their ideas and listening to the views and suggestions of local members

We showed once again how we are the most open, democratic party in British politics. This is an exciting time to be a Liberal Democrat.

The British people are ready for radical Liberal Democrat. This is the time to encourage friends and family to join us. The election of Nick Clegg has pushed up our poll ratings; we are moving forward in Tynedale.'
