For years the Liberal Democrats have been calling for the Tories to spend the £millions that the Council received when it sold the all council houses. Lib Dems were the first to call for a new swimming pool in Hexham. Paul Harrison said "The bad news is that the Tory Council is to hand over at least £15 million of your money to the new Unitary Council in Morpeth.
The Lib Dems said for years this money should have been invested into Hexham and Tynedale to make this a better place, but the Tories locked the money into the bank account. I will demand that as much money as possible is spent in Hexham, the bus station for example is a disgrace and should be improved to provide a link to the Co-op/ M&S building with more good quality shopping units built for the town."
