Philip Cooper
Local campaigner Philip Cooper has expressed concern for the future of health care in rural parts of Northumberland.
"The local healthcare I've received has been beyond praise. However, twice in three years I've had hospital treatment (at Newcastle and Wansbeck) that should have been provided locally as daycare.
"The current proposal for increased local health services sounds good for patients. However, with decreases in budgets this is clearly not sustainable. This "offer" is extremely dubious. It seems to have been the care trust's aim all along.
"Will doctors be tempted to accept this poison chalice? At the recent public meeting in Bellingham I witnessed great public support. Further, as time passes, more evidence is emerging of financial mismanagement by the care trust itself.
"How our health service is operated is accountable to us, he public. I urge the patients of all practices to keep up pressure against cuts by phone calls, letters and emails.
"Country areas of Northumberland have more need, not less, for good healthcare. Let's not be forced into accepting second best!
