Alan Beith congratulates Andrew Duffield
Former Northumberland District and County Councillor, Andrew Duffield - who is also his party's Parliamentary candidate for the Hexham Constituency - has stepped into the Unitary Authority battle for Corbridge.
Andrew, 45, has just been endorsed as the Liberal Democrat candidate to represent Corbridge on the new Northumberland Council, to be elected on May 1st. The choice of hard-working and popular campaigner Andrew Duffield for Corbridge follows the withdrawal of the Lib Dems' previous candidate, who is getting married in early May.
Welcoming Andrew as the new candidate, Liberal Democrat MP Alan Beith said: "It is great to see Andrew Duffield selected as the local choice for Corbridge. He is already the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate in the area, so he knows the village well and he has a strong record for speaking out on the issues that matter to local people."
Andrew Duffield commented: "It's an honour to be chosen for the Corbridge council seat. The key message in this election is the need for change. Labour's legacy is a £230 million debt, but it is vital for voters to understand that the Tories don't have the support to win sufficient seats county-wide. A Tory vote on May 1st will be a wasted vote. Only the Lib Dems can beat Labour in Northumberland."
