Liberal Democrat Councillor Derek Kennedy was one of a group of volunteers who helped to illuminate Hadrian's Wall on 13 March 2010. Derek was interviewed by BBC Countryfile, ITV local news and by the Times.

The event attracted attention from around the world. Last Saturday evening a line of beacons were lit along the whole length of wall from Wallsend in the east to the Solway in the west. The most dramatic section of the wall through Tynedale attracted thousands of visitors from around the region and from further afield.
